Charlottesville on excessive alert at the anniversary of white supremacist violence

a set of anti-fascist activists rallied peacefully in downtown Charlottesville as the town marks the anniversary of remaining summer’s white supremacist violence.

a few dozen black-clad demonstrators marched through downtown Saturday afternoon, stopping to pause for a second of silence on the site where a woman protesting a white nationalist rally changed into killed closing August.



some in the organization scrawled messages in chalk on the web page that hosts a makeshift memorial to Heather Heyer. numerous police officers watched from a distance.

The institution then continued marching, with a few contributors carrying a signal that stated, “accurate night time white pleasure.”

because the activists made their manner wordlessly thru a downtown pedestrian mall, human beings sitting outdoors at cafes began singing “This Little light of Mine.”

around 10 a.m. Saturday, while many shops have been beginning to open, law enforcement officers outnumbered traffic in the popular downtown buying district. Concrete limitations and metal fences were erected, and police had been looking baggage at two checkpoints in which human beings should input or leave.

Saturday marks a year considering white nationalists marched thru the college of Virginia campus with torches, clashing with a group of counterprotesters. the following day, a miles larger accumulating of white nationalists near a downtown park erupted into violence. (AP)
